Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions I’m most frequently asked

How long is each session and do I need to commit in advance to a certain number of sessions?

The first session is up to 75 minutes in length, subsequent sessions are up to 55 minutes.

You will never be required to commit to a series of sessions; we will decide together at the end of each session whether, and if so, how soon, you want to come back for another session.

Where are you located and when can I see you?

My therapy rooms are located in Southend-on-Sea and I currently offer sessions Thursday through Sunday both during the day and in the evenings.

What if I need to change or cancel my session?

If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please let me know as soon as possible. Sessions can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance without charge; after this time the full session fee may be payable.

How does Human Givens therapy differ from other forms of therapy?

Human givens therapy is a form of brief therapy so as well as never requiring you to commit to a series of sessions, it focusses on making positive change quickly. It typically takes four to six sessions though it may sometimes require more and sometimes fewer.

Human Givens therapy combines proven therapeutic techniques with the most up to date psychological knowledge which provides a flexible ‘toolkit’ and this, rather than using just a single approach, allows for tailored and fluid solutions for each individual.

These techniques include a combination of powerful, effective psychological interventions such as education, the most helpful elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation, mindfulness and guided imagery. Rehearsing success using guided imagery smooths the process of applying the techniques learnt in the therapy room to real life.
